About Maison Espiro ...
Imagine waking up, taking your coffee out on to the deck of 5 star Maison Espiro and watching the early sun reflected on Lake Annecy - could there be a more relaxing setting?
Maison Espiro, which will be available to rent from February 2018, is the perfect setting for a romantic break, or maybe a family holiday with children. The house comes with a canoe so that you can get out on the water, there's a tennis club right next door and wakeboarding sites nearby, so there's plenty to keep you busy. Two bikes are also available for your use, and the cycle path runs past the house, so you can cycle into Annecy or to other lakeside villages. The village also has a water taxi stop, making it easy to explore the neighbouring villages by water!
The village of Sevrier is just 4.5km from the medieval town of Annecy - close enough for you to be able to make the most of the shops, restaurants and markets of the medieval town, but far enough away to escape the summer crowds. Sevrier itself has several restaurants, from a pizzeria to waterside fine dining, so you won't need to go too far if you don't fancy cooking.
The property ...
Maison Espiro is a two-bedroomed, semi-detached 5 star lakeside property which is not overlooked by neighbours or walkers.
Enter through electric gates, which lead to your private parking area. As you pass through the front door you'll see the well-equipped kitchen on your left, and a stylish double bedroom on your right, which has a dressing area with wardrobes and a bathroom with a separate shower and a double sink.
The beautiful open-plan living area overlooks the deck and the enclosed garden which goes down to the lake - the perfect place to enjoy a meal as the sun sets. Back inside there's a dining area with a hatch through to the kitchen which has a full oven as well as a gas and induction hob. There is also a cosy living room with a large sofa, television and an open fire. There's another sofa in the conservatory, which has two glass sides, both of which open on to the deck and garden, and wonderful views of the lake and the mountains.
The second bedroom is off the living area, and has its own shower room and views across the lake.
Although the accommodation is all on one floor, there is also a basement, which is useful storage for the bikes and canoe, as well as other outdoor gear.
About the area ...
Less than 5km from Annecy, and right on the edge of the cleanest lake in Europe, Maison Espiro's location in Sevrier is perfect for a romantic break for two, or an active family holiday.
The Voie Verte cycle path goes right past the house, making it easy to get into Annecy without the car. If you feel up to it, you can cycle (or run!) all the way around the lake (44km), although be warned - at points the path joins the main road which can get quite busy, especially during the summer. There are also plenty of steeper cycle routes that take you up into the mountains, such as the Col de Leschaux or Le Semnoz, which has featured in the Tour de France. The climb may be steep but the stunning views are a great reward!
If you'd prefer to explore the lake from the water, you can join a two-hour hop-on, hop-off cruise which visits the villages around the lake - Sevrier has its own stop - or hire your own boat and take your time, perhaps stopping at a lakeside restaurant for a meal. It really is the most relaxing way to spend a day.
There's a tennis club right next door to Maison Espiro which welcomes guests. You can hire a court for an hour or buy a 'carnet' of five sessions at a reduced rate - you can hire racquets and balls too. Other activities available nearby include golf, paragliding, via ferrata, wakeboarding, swimming or fishing - there's no time to get bored!
If you are staying at Maison Espiro in the winter, you can ski at the small resort of Semnoz (20km), where you can buy a lift pass by the hour. The resort of La Sambuy, near Seythenex, south of Lake Annecy, is less than an hour away (30km) and has 10 pistes ranging from green to black. The Aravis stations of La Clusaz, Le Grand Bornand and Manigod are all less than 40km away, and offer 220km of superb skiing.
The medieval town of Annecy has a great selection of restaurants, from family diners to fine dining - on a sunny day, choose one of the canalside restaurants and watch the world go by. There are also some delightful independent shops, three produce markets every week and a monthly antiques market.

"... a fairytale place, humbled and cradled by nature..."
“## In a way I’d like to start this little intro with ‘once upon a time’ because it feels a bit like a fairytale place, being humbled and cradled by nature, but I think I’ll leave the superlatives for now.
I married a mad cyclist, and as one does, I took up cycling. We cycled Mont Ventoux on our honeymoon along with a handful of other lumps. We both enjoy the sport. Each at our own level - Mark is all ‘Strava’, heartbeat, carbon fiber, protein shake’ and I’m more ‘how long is this podcast?’.
Work took us to the Middle East and we needed a place to call our own, a home in Europe to maintain some semblance of sanity. I’m Swedish and Mark is British (but I don’t hold that against him) but neither of us felt we wanted a base in either place. We wanted a place where we could enjoy the outdoors. A place where we could lure friends and family to stay with us and cut down on our own travel. A most cunning plan. A place where you are only idle by your own prerogative.
A few years ago, we rented a friend's chalet in La Tania and discovered Annecy on a day encumbered by a knee injury and a weariness that every direction was either a descent or an ascent. So we drove to the cycle path that started in Ugine (many kilometers down the valley from Annecy) and when we saw the lake, with the inspiring mountain backdrop, we fell in love with the place.
That’s the long and short of it.
What I find fascinating with Annecy is that, regardless of what time of year it is, there’s always activity. Be it sailing, cycling, swimming, skiing, walking or simply sunbathing. Mark's favourite part is the view, ever-changing and seemingly creating the mood of the day. If you ask my father-in-law Michael he’d probably say watching the wildlife on the lake. The thing is everyone has something that is their favourite. My brother-in-law David, however, prefers a mountain setting with endless hiking trails in every direction. He and his partner Peter have a house above Thones - Chalet Les Roses des Alpes. You’ll see them and their faithful hound Sofia, aka Love Sponge, on long walkabouts in almost any weather. Almost.
Our house is halfway down the lake in Sevrier. The city center is a 10-15 minute bike ride, 20 minute drive or a 50 minute walk. Tennis, sailing, paddle boarding and wakeboarding are all within 15 minute walks. Our nearest boulangerie is award-winning and you’ll quickly find yourselves picking up on the subtleties of different bakers and missing it back home on any given morning.
Annecy has plenty of shopping, lovely Christmas markets and a cool light show on the facade of the town hall (it's a must see), fireworks, animation festival. It’s a buzzing beautiful little town, untouched over centuries.

Why Annecy / Lake Annecy?
Undoubtedly one of France’s most beautiful cities, Annecy sits on the shores of Lake Annecy with its stunning mountain backdrop. Known as the ‘Venice of the Alps’, ancient buildings line the canals and house boutique shops, wonderful restaurants and a multitude of ice cream parlours. Add to this a wealth of history and culture, plus beaches, watersports and world-class ski resorts, and you’ll want to return to Annecy year after year.
“A fantastic stay !”
We had a great stay on the shore of Lake Annecy. The house is very welcoming and nothing was missing. We'll happily come back.

“Just like on the website!”
A lovely family holiday. We loved everything about this place, especially the beautiful view on the lake. It's really as it's shown on the website.
